Agricola Pietro Zardini

small artisan winery and Wine Shop producing fine local wines such as Valpolicella DOC, Ripasso and Amarone della Valpolicella and many others

Reviewed By Waltons2010 - Zurich, Switzerland

We have been looking for a good and reasonably priced Valpolicella for a long time. At Restaurant La Divina in San Giorgio di Valpolicella we tried Pietro Junior from Agriocola Pietro Zardini - based on the recommendation of the waiter. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to visit Pietro Zardini and buy a few cartons to take back home. There are many wineries in the area and it is very difficult to choose one. We like to support the small wine producers and Zardini is one of them. Go and try there range of Valpolicellas, Amarones, Ripassos etc.

Tenute SalvaTerra

The Tenute SalvaTerra winery, is an estate situated in San Pietro in Cariano, at the heart Valpolicella valley, in Villa Giona estate, which is home to one of Valpolicella’s most stunning 16thcentury mansions, surrounded by cypress trees, olive groves, dry-stone walls and vineyards, and it stands at the foot of Castelrotto, of the region’s most picturesque towns.

We visited with a group organised by Titan Travel. We were very well looked after by Silvia who took us on a tour of the winery before providing us with a lovely selection of grisini, three ages of Monte Veronese cheese (excellent - very tasty) and, of course, the wines. My wife considers the Salva Terra Prosecco the best she's ever tasted. The three Valpolicella wines produced here (Classico, Ripasso and Amareno) are all excellent examples of their type, too good, in fact, to resist. Not available currently in the UK Silvia arranged for cases to be sent home to us, shipping costs paid separately to the shipper. The whole experience was excellent - relaxed but efficient. Highly recommended.

Tenute Ugolini

Reviewed By P5005HAjohns - Towaco, United States

Visited Ugolini winery recently and enjoyed the lovely hospitality of Maria Giuditta who is the granddaughter of one of the key persons instrumental in developing the Ugolini winery. With an approach dedicated to organic techniques this visit allowed us to appreciate the remarkable efforts made to produce excellent wines. The indigenous grapes of Valpolicella are especially suited to the local terroir. The skill of the winemaker in blending the various grapes is what creates that magic in a bottle of Ugolini wine. Highlighted during the tour was the fascinating process of drying the grapes for the production of Amarone and Recioto. Ingeniously the common laborers of years ago took the leftover pomice from making Amarone and used it to improve the basic Valpolicella creating another great wine style Ripasso. We tasted the classic lineup including Valpolicella, Superiore, Ripasso, Recioto and Amarone. My favorite was the Ripasso with it's earthy, leathery medium to full bodied taste which begins to approach the weight and complexity of Amarone. However at the 20 Euros price point the Ripasso is a great value. The placemat used for the tasting is a nice souvenir. It is an artist's rendition of the Fumane valley depicting the Ugolini vineyards. Maria Giuditta could not have been nicer and she sang a beautiful Venetian song for my wife's birthday. 15 minutes away in San Giorgio Di Valpolicella we enjoyed a gorgeous panoramic sunset view of Lake Garda. Another great tip from Maria!

Fumanelli

The Squarano estate is located in the heart of the most classic Valpolicella, on a hill sorrounded by vineyards and cypresses. Here Marchesi Fumanelli are producing grapes and fine wines since 1470. The first vineyards were implanted on the remains of ancient Roman ruins. There are numerous inscriptions amd archeological artifacts all around including the ruins of a temple dedicated to Goddess Flora. The name of the near village “San Floriano”probably descends from here. In 1998 the ancient tuff cellars were completely restored and still hold the oak barrels where the classical Valpolicella wines get old.

Azienda Agricola Bonazzi Dario e Fabio

A dream that becomes reality, the dream of two brothers, united by fraternal love and a passion for viniculture. Born and raised in the midst of nature, Dario and Fabio have always appreciated the authenticity and the goodness of their land, Valpolicella. Love and passion that allowed him to do the most beautiful job in the world: the winemaker. Love handed down to children too. Fascinated by the world of viniculture, now they are the new driving force of the company. The family union is the heart of this company, hence the decision to dedicate to the members of the family labels, such as San Nicola, El Dario, So fi c, Fameja (Venetian dialect that means family). The whole family takes an active part in the company activity: Fabio and Nicola manage all the operations in the vineyards and in the olive groves, Sofi is an oenologist and manages the production and quality control, while Elena manages sales, tastings and tourist groups.

Accordini Igino Winery

The story of the Accordini Igino Winery began in 1821 in the heart of Valpolicella, an area with strong and deeply rooted tradition of viticulture and wine making. This passion began thanks to an inheritance: three hectares of vineyards, whose wine was produced only for domestic use; the family used to love to spend springs and its spare time in this Cru, called “Le Bessole”. The successful story started here, from a domestic production to a national and international business, thanks to the tireless and devoted work of Guido Accordini, Igino’s son, and his wife Liliana, who are managing the winery towards oenological innovation, never forgetting tradition.
