10 Food & Drink in Blue Mountains That You Shouldn't Miss

September 14, 2021 Russell Mellin

The Blue Mountains are named for the delicate azure haze that lingers along the region, which is actually a fine cloud of oil emitted by eucalyptus trees. The mystical mountains are a labyrinth of plateaus, gorges and gum trees. Check out the Katoomba Scenic Railway (the steepest railway in the world), the Jenolan Caves and the Giant Staircase nature walk.

Dryridge Estate

We loved our visit to Dryridge - it was a highlight of our weekend in Blackheath. We were made to feel so welcome, even though the cellar door was super busy, Emma made a great effort to talk to all the guests. The wine is top notch (tastings are free!) the views are sensational and the wine dogs, Gus and George are just adorable! The wine was so good it was impossible to leave empty handed. Too bad we didn't have room for the cheese boards - they looked sensational. Well worth the drive up!

Along the six foot track in the Megalong Valley there are a few vineyards with cellar doors. Megalong creek has great wines and an even better view of the Valley. Plan ahead and ring the day before to pre-order a cheese pack (cheese plates before COVID) to go with your tasting.
