I stopped by the Robb Family Farm Country Store to purchase maple candies and syrup. Their candies were fresh and made right there. There were also many local foods and other gifts. The family is friendly. It is definitely worth a visit!

Our 560-acre farm is located in Chittenden, Vermont and has been in the Baird family for four generations. Today we tap 14,000 maple trees on our farm. Our farm store is open Wednesday - Monday 9-5. Closed Tuesdays. We offer maple tours on our farm by appointment. Please schedule ahead of time through our website. We also offer free samples of all four grades of our pure organic Vermont maple syrup in our farm store.

This is a wonderful family owned small business. They produce delicious maple syrup which are available in different varieties and also maple syrup products including various hot sauces and even maple sugar. They offer recipes via newsletter and email and entertaining online videos. I’ve visited them several times and have found them to be friendly and informative. On my last visit they gave me a tour of the processing area. Whenever we visit our favorite bed and breakfast in Vermont, we go to Baird Farm to pick up items for ourselves and as gifts for our friends and family.

We stopped in last week to make sure that the cider donuts we first tried two years ago were still good. They were, as was the home-made apple crisp (tart and sweet at the same time, with the taste of apples melting in your mouth). We bought a gallon of their maple syrup, as well as a bag of Cortlands and some garlic and tomatoes. The apple trees were loaded with apples, the yard full of big pumpkins, and there is a little playground for the little ones. The people that work at Hacketts are so friendly and helpful. What a great place to spend the afternoon - eat good food, pick some gorgeous apples, and support a local family business. I highly recommend at least one visit.

We were so thrilled to find this beautiful orchard, run by a super friendly semi-retired couple and their adorable older dog. When you imagine apple picking in Vermont, this place is what you imagine: Tremendous views of the mountains, meticulously-maintained red barns and row after row of trees brimming with easily-reached apples. We especially enjoyed picking Macintosh apples off one of a few 78 year-old trees they have! We came on a weekday, so we had the place to ourselves. The prices are very reasonable and the apples are delicious. The owners also welcome leashes dogs to join their families in the orchard. Add this to your “must do” list when visiting southern Vermont.

What a fantastic farm settled into the hills of Manchester. The owners couldn’t be nicer and take care of the animals that range from massive 800 lb pigs (we like Pierre the Pig the best) to calfs, goats and sheep and others. They let our little ones pick up the animals, collect eggs and do just about as much as we pleased in terms of farm help! It is a smaller family run organization where tours are personable and you can wander into their shop full of both their eggs, meats and cheese. There is also loads of breads, honey, sauces and other food products that we’ve seen sold at the weekly farmers markets in town so it’s been a nice tip of the cap to some of the local businesses. In the summertime, the fresh vegetable garden is a source of big envy for us as aspiring gardeners.

After visiting Manchester dozens of times, we finally went to HIldene and can't believe we didn't go before. The entrance fee seemed pretty high, but surely that is needed to support the maintenance and operation. You could spend much of a day touring the historic house and restored Pullman car (with great docents to give insight into what you're seeing), visiting the goats and farm, and hiking or skiing the trails.
