10 Day Trips from in Broome That You Shouldn't Miss

July 23, 2021 Toi Mattera

The beaches of tropical Broome aren’t just beautiful—they’re historic. The white-sand Cable Beach is named for an undersea telegraph cable that was laid in the late 1800s, connecting Broome to Singapore. A short hop over the dunes is Minyirr Park, and, on the eastern shore, Town Beach is home to a famous natural phenomenon, the Staircase to the Moon. Time-travel to the prehistoric era by heading to Gantheaume Point to check out 130-million-year-old dinosaur footprints.

This was the highlight of my 5 day trip to Broome. Hotel pickup was at 0530 and I was hanging out for the delicious cooked breakfast at Cape Leveque at 0730. Barista made coffee (at extra cost) was available at the café and met my caffeine needs. Pete was our driver and tour guide for the morning part of the tour around Cape Leveque. He had a great sense of humour and was very knowledgeable about the places he took us to. The pilot and staff at the floating base in the archipelago were brilliant too. We had a great lunch on board and were kept busy the rest of the time with the shark feeding, a cruise around the waterways within the archipelago, and exploring the two Horizontal Falls. Going through the falls at high speed was great fun. On the 1 hour flight back to Broome I got great views of the falls. A great full day tour.
