10 Cultural Tours in Province of Granada That You Shouldn't Miss

November 7, 2021 Marlin Saiz

There’s an Arabic inscription that captures the essence of Granada in a few words: “There is nothing so sad as to be blind in Granada.” The perspicacity of this declaration becomes obvious as soon as you penetrate the austere walls of the Alhambra and take in the full majesty of the architecture, carvings and fountains of the Nasrid palaces. Your ticket (which should be bought well in advance following the instructions on the attraction’s website) also affords entry to the Renaissance Palace of Carlos V and to the exquisite gardens of the Generalife. If you are celebrating a special event, or are in the market for a splurge, you can stay in the lovely Parador, right on site. Make your way down into the city via the atmospheric old quarter of the Albaicin, with its tiny craft shops and restaurants, and head for the Cathedral and Royal Chapel. Also plan a visit to the crypt for the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, the instigators of Spain’s imperial adventures to the New World and beyond. It’s worth making the short journey out of town to visit the Monasterio Cartuja, a fabulous Carthusian monastery in the baroque style. Admirers of the poet Lorca should make the effort to visit the Casa-Museo Federico Garcia Lorca in Fuente Vaqueros, about 11 miles from the city centre.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! QR code Tickets from MyTopTour are not valid when you want to enter and visit Alhambra. Mytoptour did send us tickets but not valid for the Alhambra’s entrance staff and technology. So we had to call them 5x to finally get an answer and the final official PDF tickets. On the phone, they pretend to only speak spanish and not English which is a shame for a travel company, just to avoid to help tourists in case of trouble. Because of the false tickets, we missed the slot to visit the palace and had to wait 1h30... Price is a full scam, they sell tickets with audio guide for 32€ while on Alhambra’s official website you can have the exact same access and audioguide for 21€ per person. They charge you 11€ for no reason and don’t refund when you discover the cheat!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND MY TOP TOUR!!! AVOID THIS COMPANY OR YOU WILL HAVE A BAD EXPÉRIENCE AT ALHAMBRA

A fantastic 2.5 hours tour of Albaicin and Sacamonte with Nacho as the perfect host. We were part of a group of 8 who wandered the streets of these famous areas of Granada in an evening tour. Nacho impressed us with his immense knowledge of the areas providing us with many stories behind the streets and houses. His very engaging manner and strong English language skills made it easier (not easy!!) to climb from down in the town area right up to the caves and cactus!! We fully recommend this tour to anyone who wants to explore further than the usual sights and ask for Nacho - you won't regret it

excellent tour and wonderful stories about the life and conquest of the fortress. Also great history of the Nazari kingdom of southern spain and how it finally fell to the christian king and queen in the V century . The Malaga Alcazaba stood for a long time as the protector of the Malaga trade route from Granada to the mediterranean. Our guide Mohammed was very knowledgeable and full of passion and rigor , a great guy.

We took the sunset walking tour with Maria. It was a wonderful walking tour of Albaycin and Sacromonte areas in Granada. Maria was extremely knowledgeable of the history of the City and these unique neighborhoods also quite friendly, courteous and helpful. The tour lasted a little over three hours with a short break for some refreshments. The tour was great and I would highly recommend it. Beautiful views of Granada at night and the Sierra Nevada mountains. Depending on your age and fitness climbing the stairs could be a bit difficult, but the tour was well worth it

We saw the great reviews and decided to give this a go. Granada is an important and historic city and is fantastic to explore. Our experience with Sixthrills was awesome, great people, really friendly. Our guide was Gregor, who was great as an instructor and tour guide, we had a really interesting and fun time on our tour. These guys are really great and really need our support in these strange times where tourism has declined so much. We enjoyed our tour so much we’d do it again in a heart beat. Because of the current situation it was really quiet, a great time to go and really enjoy yourself.

Our escort/non-guide was Miguel. We had an extensive tour of the countryside on the way to our two stops and Miguel was informative during the drive. There was a walking tour/orientation in Ronda and then we were given free time to enjoy the town. We picked up a sandwich to eat on the bus and that worked out well. Special thanks to our driver who patiently followed a slow truck for quite a distance on the road to Mijas, never risking passing on the very winding road until he had a clear path ahead. We arrived in Mijas and again had some free time after a walking tour/orientation from Miguel. Everyone was on time getting back on the bus, though we had to wait for Miguel. We arrived back at the ship with plenty of time to spare. This tour was a great way to see more of the countryside.
