This Thai cooking class was a highlight. We started by taking a tuk tuk to the local markets to buy the produce we needed fresh. Wandering around the market itself was an experience! Then back to the Maliwan cooking class, where we were taught how to cook four different dishes, two starters and two mains. The lesson was easy to follow and you could tweak your individual dishes to suit your taste, less chilli etc. We then got to sit and eat the fruits of our labour - delicious! We were presented with a certificate at the end. If you are a foodie, this is so worth doing!

We booked a morning class just one day in advance, and were lucky to be the only 2 people that morning, so got lots of attention. We particularly enjoyed the morning market shopping experience at the start of class, as it helped us understand what to go searching for when we try to attempt these dishes back home. Had a lot of fun preparing and a bit more fun eating all of the dishes -- did not need to eat again till late that night :) . Highly recommend!

What can I say that every one else hasn't already said? Alyssa and Tum - you've got a WINNING FORMULA in engaging your "students". Everything was superbly organised - cutlery, cooking tools, different types of mortar and pestles for different purposes, crockery, ice-cold Thai soft drinks, well-timed schedule (despite my buying a kilo of peanuts from one of the market vendors, which got him grinning from ear to ear ... in addition to lemon grass tea, mini garlic, dried shrimps, dried roselle, shrimp paste ... haha). Everything else conceivable was well thought out - from the cold wet towels, to wash-hand basins, framed photos and descriptives of the dishes to regular reminders to wash our hands before handling the raw ingredients in particular. The market tour around Yodpiman - Bangkok's oldest and largest flower and vegetable market - was great. Including finding out about floral garland and decoration vendors that are specially recognised as experts in doing up arrangements appropriate for royalty; tasting still-warm rice cakes; learning the difference between two different types of mangoes for the "som tum" salad; and having a close look at a market that's definitely off the usual tourist track. We learnt to cook - from scratch - four mainstay Thai dishes - miang kham, a traditional Thai salad with various ingredients like dried shrimp, peanut, garlic, chilli, lime, onions, roasted coconut, topped with a superb sweet-sauce sauce, and wrapped in either a betel nut leaf or lotus flower petal; som tum, shredded salad with either mango, papaya or guava; pad thai, stir-fried rice noodles with beancurd, beansprouts, prawns, and cooked - you guessed it - a specially made sauce; and a green chicken curry. We were also taught the technique of using the mortar and pestle (this gives much better control of the fine-ness of the ground ingredients, instead of in an electric blender). Look forward very much to returning and doing another class - the afternoon session offers different recipes yeah?

Visited in mid January 2019, had a brilliant experience from start to finish! We showed up 15 minutes late (due to transport issues beyond our control) and we were pleased to see that the instructor had kindly held back the start of the class for us (with the consent of the 3 other (lovely) students); thoughtful start! The whole experience was a very positive one and it was easily the best (of the 3) cooking class we've had in SE Asia! Pros: 1) The environment was great, everyone had their own cooking station, everyone had their ingredients pre-prepped by the (excellent) teaching assistant. 2) The recipes, everyone gets a recipe book (pen provided) and is encouraged to make notes in it of additional tips, techniques, advice provided throughout the class by the instructor. 3) Top quality ingredients, super fresh! 4) The instructor; he was a very good teacher! He started with a H&S brief, gave excellent demo's, then, before starting each dish, gave the students a short pre-brief detailing exactly what we were going to do. Then asked confirmatory questions to ensure that the students all understood what was required. He monitored and observed well throughout and assisted where necessary! On top of all this he was extremely charismatic and very funny!! :-D 5) Thanks to the top quality instruction and ingredients I was able to create fantastic tasting food!! Get in!! :) Cons: Can't think of one, other than it had to end! The last comment I have to make is; do NOT have anything to eat before attending!! You WILL leave absolutely stuffed full of the tastiest, nicest food you'll experience in Thailand (because you'll have made it!)!! Enjoy!!

My name is Andy. I am a cooking expert and I have cooking class (30 students per month) and I can cook more than 20 Thai Foods. I love talking and communicating with foreigner. I want to introduce authentic Thai food and Thai culture to all over the world. Furthermore, I've learnt how to cook Thai food from my mom since I was 6 years old. Because of love cooking, I decide to open restaurant and cooking class at Wat Pho because I want to serve authentic Thai food for foreigner so every dishes I will describe how to eat Thai style.

We had a great time at this cooking class. We chose the three dishes we wanted (green curry, pad Thai and spring rolls) to make and then went to the local market to get our ingredients- which was a great experience in itself. Andy was an excellent teacher who clearly knows these dishes inside out; it was very easy to follow what he was doing. All of the equipment is new and clean and the air conditioning was well appreciated! 3 dishes is just right as we couldn’t even eat it all. I never cook at home so I was thrilled with what I had made with Andy’s help. Although there’s not many reviews for this yet, please make sure you go here. It was our favourite time spent in Bangkok and Andy is extremely friendly, chatty and helpful.
