Ketoprak Tobong Kelana Bhakti Budaya

Prak! Prak! Ke-tho-prak! A Javanese form of costume drama named onomatopoeically after a percussion pattern played on a hollow wooden box or keprak by a wooden mallet. It emerged suddenly in Yogyakarta in the mid-1920s in a time of political confrontation and involved the adaptation of cosmopolitan culture (Hollywood toga dramas, Chinese operas, Malay musical theatre) into local idioms. Currently situated at Dusun Brayut, Wukirsari, Cangkringan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The Ketoprak Tobong Kelana Bakti Budaya is one of the last remaining theatre troupes in Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia. The Tobong is a temporary building with no walls, constructed from bamboo, that can moved from place to place. It frequently combines stage, group of dwellings, and auditorium. In the realm of the Javanese arts however, a Ketoprak is a community theatre performance featuring actors in traditional costumes.

Located in the bustling eastern part of Bandung, Udjo's House of Angklung attempts to manifest beautiful harmony of vibrating bamboos that echo from this simple amphitheatre all the way to the other side of the world. It spreads the values of simplicity, co-operation, unity and togetherness, as well as maintaining mutual relationship between human and the environment. Established in 1966 by the late Udjo Nalagena (1929-2001) and his beloved wife, Uum Sumiyati, Saung Angklung Udjo was built with purpose and dedication to conserve West Java’s Sundanese traditional art and culture. Ramayana Ballet at Prambanan

Reviewed By 581rianas

This dance performance is highly recommended to watch if you come to Yogyakarta. Just about half hour trip from Yogyakarta, you can visit Prambanan temple and the dance performance which located in the same area. The story is basically about true love based on Indian Ramayana. It involves lots of dancers with nice costume. You can read the story from the booklet or from the projector they showed during the show (it’s in English and Indonesia). We chose the VIP seat (cost around Aus$40) due to the seat as the non VIP seat will requires you to sit on the stone for around 2 hours. The temple in the background gives fantastic feeling as we enjoy this night performance. Please keep in mind that you only can get the outdoor performance during dry season, while for some other months the performance will be indoor during rain season (from November). Just browse this information and also to book ticket online by googling about Ramayana ballet prambanan. Personally I will recommend to watch this performance outdoor during full moon.
