10 City Tours in La Paz That You Shouldn't Miss

November 30, 2021 Venice Greaves

Sitting in a valley in the Andes Mountains, La Paz is the city that touches the clouds. The de facto capital of Bolivia, and sitting between 3300 and 4100 meters above sea level, La Paz is the highest capital city in the world. Rich with 19th century churches, museums of artifacts from the pre-Conquest era, precarious overlooks, and colorful markets, La Paz is truly unique. The Witches’ Market, in the center of the city, sells charms and potions for Aymara rituals, as well as souvenirs.

This was one of the most incredible experiences my family ever had. The agency was very professional the buses that took is from La Paz to Uyuni were formidable, the tour guide/driver was waiting for us at the bus station with the 4WD that would take us through the salt flats took our bags gave us time to have breakfast and the tour started. The tour guide was very professional as driver, as photographer and as a chef, yes a chef, he stopped at restaurant between the ollague volcano and Uyuni and made a meal for my family before we continue our Journey through the different lagunas. Hands down this travel agency is one of the best agencies I have dealt with. My family is always traveling and this is one of the agencies that gave us the best experience. I strongly recommend using their services

Pamela with Shuttle Safe Bolivia picked us up at the airport in La Paz and drove us to our hotel in Copacabana on Lake Titicaca, where she arranged a boat trip on the lake for us the next morning and afterwards drove us to our hotel in La Paz. We also did a day trip to Tiwanaku with Pamela from La Paz. Pamela is an exceptional organiser, guide and driver. Without her expertise we wouldn't have been able to accomplish everything that we did in our quick four day visit to the La Paz area. Pamela made us feel like family and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with her. She also arranged an excellent guide, Angela, for us while at Tiwanaku. I can't say enough about Pamela's professionalism, knowledge, enthusiasm and safe driving skills (essential in La Paz). Just hire her, she is the best. Thanks Pamela for everything!

We had about 5 hours in La Paz between flights. We walked into a tourist place looking for something we could do in such a short time, and they booked us with Hanaqpacha Travel to do a city walking tour. It was a very last minute booking and we only had a few minutes to get to the meeting location, but the tour guide waited for us, which was so great. It wasn't a large group, so it was great to be able to hear the guide well. He was very relaxed and gave us great insight into the political history of Bolivia, as well as information about La Paz and traditions of the shamans and witch markets. He was informative and answered our questions well. He even helps us at the end of the tour get a taxi and negotiated on our behalf a reasonable charge to safely get us back to the airport for our flight.
