"Gorny Vozdukh" is one of the fastest growing ski resorts in the Far East. The unique location - in the heart of the capital of the Sakhalin region, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk city - allows guests be in the center of winter sports very quickly. If you are Orthodox, as I am, this is a magnificently large church with a glorious array of newly dedicated icons, many in fresco form, with a wonderful mosaic over the main door. It is peaceful and the liturgy is regularly conducted. If you are seeing it as a regular tourist, you cannot fail to be impressed by its huge size, its gloriously glittering azure and golden domes, and the splendour of its icons, particularly the ceiling, even as you wonder where the money came from to build what is by many degrees the biggest and most expensive structure in all Sakhalin.
