10 Budget-friendly Things to do in Montepulciano That You Shouldn't Miss

September 25, 2021 Vergie Nakamoto

Montepulciano makes a great base for exploring the Tuscan hill towns. Just make sure to pack well-broken-in walking shoes, because cars aren’t allowed in the center of town. Explore the Duomo of Montepulciano and the Palazzo Tarugi… or sample the local wine, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which has been praised for centuries.

Our hotel in Montepulciano arranged this tour for us and we are so glad that they did. We've done several winery tours in the past and I can honestly say that this one was the most informative we ever done. We learned so much about the entire process. The tasting was wonderful as well, as they offered several different types of wine to try. We ended up purchasing an entire case to have shipped back to the US. Our packaged arrived a few weeks later and we've already enjoyed one of the bottles. Each time we open one it will remind us of our amazing Italian trip. I highly recommend both the tour and their wines.

Copper and Brass for the house and the kitchen Hand made according to ancient rules

Reviewed By Woodswomanwalking - Colorado, United States

Bottega del Rame Is a must stop in Montepulciano. And Rico Mazzetti is a third-generation copper craftsman. I’ve been to this shop at least four times, and always try to purchase something even if it is only a serving spoon. I just ordered two bigger copper pots with lids directly from the shop and they came to my house in the United States in four days. It is so exciting to unwrap items for my kitchen from this wonderful place. As soon as we are able to travel to Europe again, the first among my planned trips will be Tuscany and I will definitely go back to visit Mr. Mazzetti, his staff, and joyously wander around in his copper shop. Put it in your plans if you will be in Tuscany. You won’t regret it. Note: in order to post this review, I had to select a date. However my options were limited for that selection. I have been to the shop four times between 2006 and 2016.

I purchased Marcato pasta machine online and I just got it delivered to my door step directly from Italy to Singapore. What I really appreciated is how they packaged the product; extra cushioning material, bubble wrap and taping to avoid any sort of damages in transit. I received in a perfect condition and the machine is such a beautiful one ( Atlas 150 green) that can just sit on my dry kitchen and brightens my day by just looking at it. It came with a message letter and a discount coupon for a next purchase too. I appreciated these were written in English too. One day when COVID restriction is lifted I hope to visit the store in Italy.

We thoroughly recommend Icario, both for the wine and the experience. The wine tasting with Lucia was informative and a lot of fun (even in these dark days of COVID). The winery and grounds are beautiful and the passion of the owners towards wine-making is evident. You should definitely include this winery in your itinerary while in Montepulciano.

Italian Language School Il Sasso - Day Class

The Italian language school Il Sasso is located in Montepulciano, a beautiful, renaissance town that stands on a hill surrounded by vineyards and olive groves in southern Tuscany. The school was founded in 1983 by people who are still running it today and it is recognized by the Ministry of Public Education. Foreign students are of every age group and come from all parts of the globe.

I’ve just returned home after my second two-month stay in Montepulciano attending Il Sasso Scuola di Italiano. Yes, my second stay but certainly not my last. Is it habit-forming? Perhaps, but pleasantly so, as I learned from other students who have enjoyed many more years there than I. After trying and dropping other language schools (Italian and others), I finally discovered a real gem at Il Sasso, thanks to the encouragement and support of the extremely talented teachers and staff, all of whom made me feel welcome from the first day. The teachers I had - Sara, Roberta, Francesca, Eleonora, Gaia, Cinzia, Constanza and Alberto - kept classes lively and educational. And special thanks to Heike who kept me well informed and in the right classroom at the right time. Montepulciano also is a gem, perhaps the most-beautiful of Tuscany’s hill towns, where the shops and stores are accustomed to seeing many tourists yet welcome Il Sasso students and are saintly patient with our halting yet enthusiastic Italian. This fall I joined with five other students to spend five days with Sara exploring in-depth the rich bounty of regional art and culture, expanding our horizons (literally and figuratively) as we wandered through cathedrals, underground cities, museums, and abbazie, gazing at Italian history come alive through Sara’s profound knowledge of her country’s heritage. To her a special thanks and to all the staff, I echo an earlier post: non vedo l’ora di ritornare!
