No Warm Water

My stay and trip to "Die Hel"

Reviewed By ezicucit

My wife and i stayed 2 nights at Bougain-Villa guest house - room was comfortable with coffee or tea facility and en-suite bath plus shower . The owners were super friendly offering their fridge space to keep our milk or drinks etc. plus as a bonus John Claasens (the owner) takes tourists to 'Die Hel" using his transport named John's Donkey, so we arranged to do that next day and it was the most fantastic experience - the scenery is magnificent and a light lunch is part of the deal - we left at about 8 am and back in Prince Albert at about 4.30 pm - well worth it and highly recommended- John will keep you entertained with his vast knowledge of the area. Our thanks to John and his wife Esme for a memorable experience- Ezi and Elva Cucit from Pietermaritzburg.

Onse Rus Guest House

You will immediately feel at home as you slow down to the relaxed pace of country life and take time to experience simple beauty, the attention to detail - the odd shaped rooms - the garden with quirky stone men - the warm and inviting lounge leading onto a large shaded garden with swimming pool, bedrooms with French doors and shutters opening into the garden - the harshness of the Karoo that gives you grace in the evening and gentleness in the morning. Our guest accommodation and facilities are separate from our own, affording our guests a level of privacy not normally associated with a guesthouse. We accept credit cards (Visa and MasterCard only) and guests are most welcome to use the Wi-Fi.

Highlight of our roadtrip!

Reviewed By hikingcon

While planning a recent roadtrip through the Karoo we booked an evening at Onse Rus for no particular reason, with this turning into one of the best decisions we made for the trip. Unfortunately our trip had a little incident the night before arriving at Prince Albert and we had to make a few special arrangements, and so we called ahead. The owners were more than understanding and accommodated us and made us feel right at home. They added personal touches to the room (they even added a little joke about our incident on our welcoming letter) and even made a reservation for us at a local restaurant for that evening. It being a roadtrip buddy's birthday that same day, Neil (one of the owners) surprised us by taking a few candles over to the restaurant to make our desserts even more special! Our quite spacious room was clean and well equipped to stave off the cold of the late autumn nights and had convenient access to a side road for loading our bags off and on. The next morning for breakfast we were greeted with homemade jams, homemade bread and kimchi omelettes! The kimchi was also homemade by Leonard (one of the owners) and was a surprising taste of Korea in the middle of the Karoo. The kimchi was not as spicy as you might expect from most, but it definitely had that delicious "sourness" and tang to it, I would definitely recommend trying some while there. It's unfortunate that we only had a single night here, but because of the hospitality, the level of service and the food, Onse Rus is a place I'll gladly plan a trip around!
