Reviewed By Uncle_MartinI like to tell people about good places. This place is better than just good. Friendly helpful staff, good sized rooms who can provide good travel advice. It is located a short walk from the three pagodas and just outside the old city. There are western breakfasts available at extra cost if you want them which are OK and won't spoil your desire for a tasty lunch. There are a few minus points, which are more than offset by the value for money and the level of service proffered. It is hard to strike a balance between hot and tepid in the shower, but it can be achieved without too much trouble. If you don't like really nice puppies wait until Dali has matured into a really fine dog. Dali, the pup, was nearly the highlight of our visit, friendly, happy and well behaved but playful. The highlight however was the way in which the staff all went that extra mile to help. The place has a bar and will serve light meals/snacks of western food during the afternoon and evening ... just ask or read the hotel offerings board. Contact them for a free pickup from where the bus can drop you ... bus drivers in China can be very helpful and kind if you are nice to them ... the hotel will give you instructions on where to ask to be dropped for the courtesy pickup. They will also arrange airport and station pickups. Do visit PS They even loaned me a small heater to ease my back-ache in the morning chill ... so nice of them.

The owner contacted us the day before with which was a great help, we didn't get to meet him but the staff were great. They serve a really good breakfast in the downstairs restaurant with a fantastic outlook. The rooms are very basic but have a nice share balcony with views of the Pagoda. The taxi found it hard to find the place as for some reason they do not have a sign outside.

Welcome The quiet "Dali Garden Bed & Breakfast" is located in the centre of a Bai minority farmers’ village XiangYangXi between the CangShan mountains and at the shore (75m) of Erhai Lake, 12 km north of Dali Old Town. Two km north of the B&B is the ancient town of Xizhou with its Bai morning market and traditional Bai courtyard houses. Zhoucheng, another Bai traditional minority village is also nearby. Here is the China you always wanted to see! Facilities Besides Chinese and Bai (local language), we speak English, French, German and Dutch. Good soft mattresses, 2 comfortable chairs and table which you also can use for sitting on the veranda. The rooms are decorated with parts of dresses of several minorities in Yunnan. Spacious attached bathroom with walk-in shower, 24 hour hot water and western toilet, hair dryer, makeup/shaving mirror, slippers, bathrobes. About slippers, everyone has to use slippers in the house. You start your day with an extensive Western breakfast; Yunnan coffee or tea, orange juice, bread with marmalade, cheese, eggs with ham or bacon, fruit, yoghurt/milk, muesli/cornflakes, pancakes and so on. We organize excursions in the Dali region, because we live here we can show you the nicest places. We organize cultural events in daytime or evening on request (Bai language, songs, dance and music). Fantastic hosts in Dali
Reviewed By 20rhettOur family of 4 stayed in the family suite at Dali Garden B&B for 4 nights in October 2019. The accommodation itself was excellent - very spacious, sunny, clean, comfortable, and quiet. It is in a village outside Dali, so you get a sense of genuine village life, as opposed to typical accommodation in a heavily touristed area. The biggest benefit of staying here are the owners, Sunny and Gerard. You are staying in rooms in their house, and they want you to feel at home. We definitely felt this way - much better than an impersonal hotel in my opinion. A full breakfast is included, and there is the option for dinner as well for a very modest additional cost. We opted to eat in most nights because Sunny would cook up a delicious Chinese feast with multiple dishes. The other great benefit is their knowledge of the area. Sunny runs a tour company, and so she knows some amazing places to go that you won't find in Lonely Planet. It was invaluable to have a local guide who could take us to these hidden places and help us out with language, food, etc. In short, if you are wanting to get to know the area around Dali then I would highly recommend staying with Sunny and Gerard.

Cosy place in quiet surroundings
Reviewed By Hans-Christian GThe hotel is located in a residential area near one of the main roads. As only residents can drive here it's very quiet. The hotel is a new old house with a few rooms only. The owners are nice young people and there is always a nice and warm atmosphere. The rooms are very basic but there are three doubles with private shower. If you take into account the extremely economic price one cannot expect more. I stay there always when I come to dali and will do so in the future too.

Reviewed By Worldwalker000I loved the room and the architecture of this beautiful old house and it must have been a great place to stay when it had good onsite management but now the whole setup is quite strange. As previous reviewer said, it's more like renting a room in a house than staying in a guesthouse or hotel. The manager was friendly and let me into my room but then left. No management lives in the hotel so if there are any problems or you want anything you have to phone her. I didn't have a phone so when I discovered the toilet was completely blocked, I had to email and wait! (Also it makes me wonder about housekeeping standards that they didn't notice it was completely blocked with toilet paper before I moved in!) Laozi room is the biggest and best but it's bathroom is about a meter square which means you have to sit on or straddle the toilet when having a shower. Kongzi is smaller but with a huge bathroom. Hotel has wifi but no access now to dvd player and book library they had advertised. I was kept awake until late one night by the drunk patrons and amplified live music coming from the open air bar across the road that went on until after midnight. Strangely it was a Monday night.

Reviewed By TednmaeI had booked in advance and when I arrived was told they only had me booked for one night and they were full. Breakfast is eggs, eggs and more eggs and other guests asked for toast but no one had baked bread -this was a usual answerThe room had not been cleaned and had urine on the toilet seat, stained doonas, uncomforatable beds and the shower was dirty. The room was two star boardering on one star. The owner only provides information on his tours and does not assist with any other tourist information as it would take business away and his tours are excessivley overpriced.

The hosts of the lodge are two nice and warm-hearted girls cici and kiki. They used to be volunteer teachers in Yunnan and love this beautiful place, so they stay and build this lodge for a peace of happiness.Located next to old town Dali, backs on Cangshan Mountain with a very good view of Erhai Lake. 5 minutes by bike to South Gate (bike free for 3 hours/day at normal time) and bus stop is just in front us, Yellow Canary Lodge has a very convinient location to either old town or other famous sites.There are two types of rooms:Comfortable Tatami room with private bathroom and big french window4-bed Dorm with linen,locker,reading lights. Very nice hostel run by very nice people
Reviewed By Joe CThere was some initial confusion with our booking but Cici contacted me as soon as she realised and arranged an alternative hotel for our first night. Cici and the other staff were very friendly and helpful. The hostel is a short walk from the main backpacker streets and is very pleasant.
