10 Beaches in Koh Tao That You Shouldn't Miss

October 11, 2021 Osvaldo Hartline

Drifting serenely in the Gulf of Thailand, the palm-fringed island of Ko Tao takes its name from the abundant sea turtles that reside on its shores. White sand beaches sheltered by steep hills – some only accessible with four-wheel drive vehicles – and 300 days of sun per year invite long afternoons of lounging.

Hin Wong Bay

Reviewed By Chameleonsmark - Middleton, United Kingdom

I’ve been coming to Hin Wong Bay for over 20 years. I’ve seen many changes on the island, not all for the better, Hin Wong Bungalow at the end of the New road form Sairee Beach is as close to the old backpacking experience of Koh Tao as you’re likely to find. A small but pretty beach is hidden away just beyond the restaurant, where you’ll find Mol’s beach bar, one of the coolest bars on the island. Mol is the beach’s custodian and works daily to ensure the beach and the surf is clean. From there you can snorkel the rocks to the south where you’ll find a hidden coral garden amongst the plethora of feeding shoals of parrot fish. If you choose to take on of the hillside bungalows you’ll get fantastic views of the bay and on cloudless nights a full moon shining her light across the ocean. Hin Wong is one of Koh Tao’s peaceful jewels, well away from the boisterous hub that Sairee Beach is these days, and with the brand new, modern road, it’s easy to navigate either on foot if you don’t mind a couple of steep climbs, or by rented motor scooter although there will be a 20 bht charge for parking it. Old school Koh Tao is alive and well at Hin Wong Bay. (AVOID HIN WONG APRTMENTS THOUGH WHATEVER YOU DO - A HORRIBLE, GREEDY ENGLISH TROLL RUNS IT)

Jansom Bay

Jansom Bay is a beautiful white sand beach. One of the best on the island of Koh Tao. The beach is only 10 minutes walk from Mae Haad, the main port town, on the south-west side of Koh Tao. It's good for kids because there is no currents and the water is clear and quite shallow. It's a privately owned beach so a small entrance fee will be charged.

The best beach in koh Tao. Great for snorkelling , good restaurant and friendly staff. Entrance fee is 200 bath, and you can use the sun beds. Highly recommended
