10 Bars & Clubs in Lafayette That You Shouldn't Miss

June 4, 2021 Claudia Navarrete

Founded by the Acadians in the 19th century, the legacy of Louisiana's French, Spanish and Caribbean ancestors comes together in Lafayette, creating a city with, amongst other things, a vast selection of restaurants serving everything from spicy po'boys to crawfish etouffee. With its lively street festivals, impromptu Zydeco concerts, historic plantations and food markets where locals still order their plate lunches in Louisiana French, Lafayette is the heart of Cajun country.

We stumbled into Lafayette on a self planned musical tour of the south. Unbeknownst to us there was a Zydeco Festival on in town which was amazing. Afterwards in the evening we rocked up to to The Blue Moon to see a couple of bands. The ecstatic faces of everyone in the room will stay with me forever.

Blue Moon Guest House and Saloon

I have been wanting to go to this place for YEARS! I finally got my wish a few days ago. Wow! I was not disappointed. The bar is a big porch with no door and a tin roof, nothing fancy. It was Cajun jam night and almost every seat on stage was filled with musicians who came to jam. There was enough room for dancing. The bar itself is in the back. The drinks were inexpensive and there was no cover charge. AND, there was free food!!! Rice and gravy and roast pork! There were folks there from at least two other countries who had done there homework in regards to what were the cool places to visit in Lafayette. A special shout out to the bartender. He was a sweetheart! I am in love with this place. I want to go back.

Genuine place to enjoy crawfish étouffée and a basket of spicy crawfish, while listening to the Cajun tunes in a friendly atmosphere, with frolicking children and few informed adult dancers.
