10 Bars & Clubs in East Village That You Shouldn't Miss

November 14, 2021 Kelli Reichel

Conquering New York in one visit is impossible. Instead, hit the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – and then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. Indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer.

Lucky

Lucky is a comfortable neighborhood bar, delightfully douche-free, with a warm, whip-smart staff that doesn’t suffer fools. It isn’t for everyone. But it may be for you. Marvel at the eclectic music on our jukebox. Enjoy a beverage in our beautiful garden. Introduce yourself to someone. Bask in the glory or no TVs. Welcome. Prices range from $3 for a can of Genessee to $12 for a fancy cocktail. Our menu changes with the seasons -- as well as assorted holidays -- and we love a theme! We are a “dive bar for grown-ups,” which means a toilet you aren’t afraid to sit on and a glass of wine you won’t spit out. We encourage the celebration of everything, from birthday parties to book releases, engagements to wedding receptions, and we often host clothing swaps, poster painting parties and other civic-minded fun.

McSorley's Old Ale House

Reviewed By DougS649 - Washington DC, United States

The menu had five items or so, written on a chalkboard. There are two beers available, light and dark. (Both are great, I prefer the dark one.) There was one waiter tending to all of the crude, old, wooden tables. (He was doing an incredible job too!) We loved the place! The walls are all covered with history. This is what we think of '20s speakeasy. Leave the kids at home and enjoy yourself here like they used to in the old days!

Otto's Shrunken Head

We spent a good evening in here propping up the bar. Not overly expensive for New York. Strong cocktails and I loved the little monkeys and crocodiles that decorated them. Great music on the night we were there.

Mona’s is a great place to visit and experience in this part of Manhattan just off Tompkins Square Park. They have great music and the prices for drinks are the best you will find in New York.
