Peyote People

Peyote People specializes in the yarn paintings and bead art done by the Wixarika known as the Huichol Indians. For almost 20 years now we have been working with a couple very traditional families that live in the Sierra Madre mountains of Jalisco. You will also find a great selection of dance masks and Mexican folk art including Oaxacan black clay pottery, and wood carvings known as alebrijes. Ceramic pottery by Javier Servin from Gto. and the original Catrina sculptures from Capula Mich.

4D Art Museum

The first Art Museum in the city. ABOUT US. 4D Art Museum is a place where community meets to live astral experiences, to get inspiration, to relax, and also, to act. Moreover, it is also a place to be intellectually and spiritually stimulated. We truly believe in ARTivismo (ARTivism), which is a way to combine ART and CULTURE to awake consciousness about different social issues. By being the first Art Museum in Puerto Vallarta, we have created a new space to know, through a very innovative way, more about our Mexican ancestral roots and a unique kind of painting technique that invites us to travel to other dimensions. 4D Art Museum invites you to live a never-seen-before art experience, taking you into a mysterious and colorful Fourth Dimension (4D). We will enjoy a visually surprising tour, full of magic and energy that will lead you to other dimensions.

If you are a lover of truly unique art forms, don't miss the opportunity to experience this unusual gallery. Colour, form, sculpture, painting, multi-media, hospitality; this tour provides a view of this exciting artist's perspective. I loved it and will return every year to follow the evolution of his work.

Galeria Colectika

Reviewed By BestBartender - Chicago, United States

Colectika is an exceptional gallery, specializing in regional Mexican art. Much of the collection is dedicated to wooden painted carvings (alebrijes) from Oaxaca or Huichol art from the Wixáritari, who live in the Sierra Madre Occidental range in the states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas and Durango. The alter comes in two forms – carvings that are covered with colorful small glass beads or yarn “paintings”. Both of these art forms incorporate symbols of importance to the indigenous residents. The gallery is owned and managed by Kevin Simpson who has developed close relationships with many of the artists and who is extremely knowledgeable and will spend as much time as one needs explaining and discussing the art with visitors to the gallery. Colectika will also provide shipping to one’s home. While the prices here are not cheap, they are extremely reasonable for the quality of the work exhibited. This is definitely a place for both serious collectors and those interested in beginning a collection. There are also two other shops in town showing similar work but in smaller venues. These are both called Peyote People and are owned and managed by the same folks. No visit to Puerto Vallarta should be considered complete with a visit here.

When we were being taken on a tour of the city, we stopped in this building to see some murals. While going up a staircase a mural will meet you face to face. Was very powerful and moving. I recommend that you hire a local tour guide to introduce you to the beautiful murals of this city.
