Palazzo del Podesta

Reviewed By asiyahnoemik - Pula, Croatia

On the beautiful Piazza Cavour next to the Palazzo del Arengo is the beautiful Palazzo del Podestà. It is the most beautiful, important and magnificent building in Piazza Cavour. It was the seat of the Podestà, one of the centers of temporal power of past ages. This imposing Gothic palazzo on the northern edge of pretty Piazza Cavour dates to the 14th century. Structured in full Romanesque-Gothic style with its lateral lines, pointed arches and a series of windows, the Palace is one of the oldest structures overlooking the Piazza Cavour. Interestingly, there were public executions in this Palace. The ground floor of the Palace hung the rope with which they carried out the public hangings of various offender. Now the Palace is often used for shows and exhibitions.

Torre dell' Orologio

Reviewed By asiyahnoemik - Pula, Croatia

Rimini provides many interesting points to enjoy and among them is certainly the Three Martyrs Square (Piazza Tre Martiri). On the Square today dominates the Clock Tower (Torre dell'orologio). It was built in 1547 on the site of the ancient butchery and rebuilt in 1759 on a project by Giovan Francesco Buonamici. The tower has a clock dating back to 1562, under which there is a perpetual calendar of 1750, decorated with terracotta tiles depicting the zodiac signs, the months and the moon phases. Around the Clock Tower was later incorporated in the 17th century Brioli Palace (Palazzo Brioli). The central blind arch of the portico of the tower houses of the War Memorial (Monumento ai Caduti) of the Second World War.
